Weekend Staycation at Acacia Hotel

Before I pop in a couple of months, we decided to spend some alone time with our son for a weekend. Luckily, Acacia hotel in Alabang was having a promo (ahhh the beauty of groupon deals!) in Deal Grocer for only P3500 for 2 with breakfast! The reviews about this fairly new 5-star hotel in the South were pretty good.

We arrived at around 2:30pm and check out was a breeze, accompanied by a welcome drink! We stayed in the Deluxe room. The room was good enough for a family of three and bigger than the Deluxe room of Edsa Shangri-la. I so loved the King sized bed and the fluffy pillows! Rocco enjoyed himself immensely just running around the room and peaking through the glass window watching the cars pass by. Another plus would be the bathtub - especially if you have kids with you!

At around 5pm, we went down to the pool area. The pool was pretty small. So, if you're a serious swimmer, it's not for you especially if it's a weekend and full of kids. There were also a few lounge chairs but the staff were quick enough to bring in additional chairs when requested. Plus points would be the complimentary Iced Tea that they serve.

Dining wasn't a problem. If you don't feel like eating at the hotel's restaurant or just getting room service, there are restaurants near the hotel. For dinner, we decided to eat at Conti's which was just across the back of the hotel.

By 8:30am the following day, we were ready for breakfast. I was a bit surprised that there was a line and we waited for 10 minutes before we finally got a table. I was quite disappointed to see that there were numerous dishes that needed to be replenished (never encountered this in other 5 star hotels) and it took them quite a while to do so, same with the glasses. They had American, Japanese, Korean and Filipino dishes but none of the food gave me an impression. I am not really into the quantity of the buffet spread but honestly I expected more in terms of quality and taste. So yes, breakfast was a letdown and I did not enjoy it, too bad.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Acacia hotel, except for breakfast. I'd say I'd still recommend it and will probably go back -but either we have breakfast at an earlier time or maybe just dine out.

Toddler activity: Pasta tub

I have observed that Rocco is already starting to get bored with his toys. For the past two weeks, I did some research on toddler activities, specifically on sensory play and boy did I find a lot! I'm excited to introduce him to the many activities! Enrolling him to weekly classes again is not an option right now because I am already having quite a hardtime doing floor exercises with him during class. So in the meantime, I resorted to making the activities myself. What I like about these activities is that they are not expensive. A lot of the tools are already available in you pantry, kitchen and school supplies box.

Today, other than our daily clay molding session (he loves clay), I prepared a Pasta Tub which he absolutely loved! By the end of his 'play' everything was on the floor, hahah! Well, the point is to acquaint him with different textures and not worry about how messy it could get.

Cheesecake by Gregory Guy

Apparently, I accidentally deleted the post that I made on Gregory Guy's Cheesecake. So anyway, here is the second shot!

Last November, I read a review from Desserts come first about Gregory Guy's cheesecake and I knew that I had to try it! Around the same time, there was a Groupon promo on Chef Guy's cheesecake at 50% off! The God's must have been on my side, so I grabbed the opportunity and got 2 coupons.

It was only last February that I was able to redeem the cheesecakes because I was actually trying to avoid desserts.

Once I got home I quickly headed to the kitchen and ate a slice. It was so good! It's one of the best I have tasted so far-
Smooth, velvety and melts in your mouth! I had to stop myself from devouring the whole cheesecake!

There are several flavors to choose from: Classic, Lemon, Coffee, and Oreo. Premium cheesecakes are Matcha and Vanilla. It also comes in two sizes: Mini (Php 500 for the regular flavors and Php 600 for the premium flavors) and Regular (Php 1000 for the regular flavors and Php 1200 for the premium flavors). Order at least two days in advance. Unfortunately orders are only for pick up either in Greenmeadows or Jupiter St. In Makati.

You definitely need to try it!

DIY cupcake topper

I made some DIY cupcake toppers for my niece's baptism last month. Why order a customized topper when you can do you own, right? Here are the materials that I used:

White, purple and pink board paper
Wilton lollipop sticks cut into half
1" circle and floral punchers
Double sided tape
Scissors
Purple and pink background from the net

This is an easy peasy project.  All you need to do is look for a background based on the theme of the party from the Internet, insert text, print, punch and paste!
